When email was originally invented in the 1980s, it didn't come with any protection against malicious actors. This is why Horizon Mail was developed with multiple protections built-in against phishing and spoofed emails.
Horizon Mail has ratelimits to prevent mass spam attacks, both coming in and coming to/out of Horizon Mail.
John, a cybercriminal, wants to spam bomb Alice, a Horizon Mail user.
John creates a script that hammers Alice's inbox.
Her inbox quickly fills up with spammy messages and she must manually clean them out.
John, a cybercriminal, wants to spam bomb Alice, a Horizon Mail user.
John creates a script that hammers Alice's inbox.
Only a few spammy messages arrive in Alice's inbox, while the rest are rejected by Horizon Mail.
Alice doesn't have to do much cleaning up.
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication protocol that, when setup properly, prevents malicious actors from sending spoofed emails.
John, a cybercriminal, attempts to send a spoofed email to Alice, a Horizon Mail user.
John sends an email with the "From" header set as [email protected]
to Alice and adds a realistic looking "Change Password" message.
Alice receives the email without any warnings and clicks the "Change Password" button, being brought to a phishing website where she enters her password. John now has her Paypal credentials.

John sends an email with the "From" header set as [email protected]
to Alice and adds a realistic looking "Change Password" message.
Horizon Mail receives the message and checks for a valid DMARC signature in the email's headers.
John isn't Paypal, so he doesn't have Paypal's private and public key combination to generate a valid DMARC signature.
Since the email didn't include a valid DMARC signature, the message is automatically discarded and Alice never receives the phishing email.
Alice is protected and never notices a thing. Her Paypal account is safe and sound.
All incoming emails are analyzed locally (on the Horizon Mail server) for indicators of phishing or spam attacks. Emails are never sent to third-parties automatically and scans use a local neural network that evolves over time.
John, a cybercriminal, is stumped that he can't spoof emails to send to Alice. In retaliation, he decides to be super annoying and flood Alice's inbox with useless, spammy emails.
John creates a super long string of random characters, XJS*C4JDBQADN1.NSBN3*2IDNEN*GTUBE-STANDARD-ANTI-UBE-TEST-EMAIL*C.34X
, and rapidly sends these to Alice's email.
Alice's inbox is quickly flooded by these characters and she has to manually go through and delete these annoying messages.

Horizon Mail locally scans these messages using its built-in spam-detection neural network. It finds a pattern that [email protected]
is rapidly sending these spammy messages to Alice.
Horizon Mail prefixes the subject of these messages with [***** SPAM <score> *****]
, adds X-SPAM
, X-SPAM-Flag
, X-SPAM-Level
and X-SPAM-Status
headers to the email and changes the message content to remove potentially spammy content and warn Alice.
The message will be changed to something similar to the following.
Horizon Mail identified this email as spam or potentially malicious. Proceed with caution and avoid opening any attachments which may contain malware.
The original message has been attached to this email.

Horizon Mail also moves these messages identified as spam into Alice's Junk folder automatically and marks them for deletion in 30 days.
Alice's main inbox stays clean and she may not even notice that John has been attempting to send spam to her inbox.
